Sketch Dump: More Metroid Metamorphoses

Description

Metroid II: Return of Samus and its remakes showcase the natural life cycle of the Metroid species.  It hatches as a larva, then it repeatedly undergoes metamorphosis to become a pill bug-like Alpha Metroid, then an arachnid Gamma Metroid, then a xenomorph-esque Zeta Metroid, and finally a saurian Omega Metroid.

This got me wondering.  If these four stages of the Metroid's life are identified with four letters of the Greek alphabet... what about the other 20 letters of the Greek alphabet?  These were some quick sketches of ideas for other stages of Metroid metamorphosis.  I tried to retain two core concepts in each sketch: the membrane, and the larva-like head.  Some (like the Pi Metroid) turned out better than others (like the Kappa Metroid).

Ideally, each one is derived from the previous canonical stage.  In other words, Alpha Metroids can become Beta or Gamma Metroids, but only Gamma Metroids can become Delta, Epsilon, or Zeta Metroids, and only Zeta Metroids can become the remaining letters of the alphabet (anything from Eta through Omega).

- Beta Metroids become master tunnelers, able to bore through rock with ease.  They also can shield their vulnerable membrane by curling into a ball.
- Delta Metroids develop as a natural extension of the Gamma Metroid's ability to create webbing.  These Metroids weave complex webs to ensnare their prey.
- Epsilon Metroids use their three large claws to grab their victims.
- Eta Metroids will work in pairs to overcome obstacles, but also tend to be cannibalistic and will turn on each other when their task is complete.
- Theta Metroids are incredibly stealthy, using their long tongues to catch unsuspecting prey.
- Iota Metroids choose to be scavengers rather than hunters, letting stronger predators do the work for them.
- Kappa Metroids have fingers that are long enough that they could be considered additional arms.  Their main method of attack is rapidly spinning their arms (or fingers?).
- Lambda Metroids regain the ability to channel electric attacks, which is normally lost when Gamma Metroids become Zeta Metroids.
- Mu Metroids are covered with plate-like armor, making them incredibly durable.  This comes at the cost of being very slow.
- Nu Metroids will wildly charge at enemies and impale them with large horns.
- Xi Metroids can crawl in any direction on any surface.  Ceilings and floors are the same to them.  Up is down, left is right.
- Omicron Metroids terrify their prey with their eldritch appearance alone.  They are very rare and considered by some scientists to be a mere myth.
- Pi Metroids constantly produce noxious gases and poisons to kill their victims.  As a consequence, they are very sickly and rarely live long.
- Rho Metroids tend to look after younger Metroids, nursing them until they are old enough to defend themselves.
- Sigma Metroids resemble the ancient Chozo warriors.  Instead of breathing fire, they shoot it from their hands.
- Tau Metroids dwell in water, where they become the apex predator.  On land, they are not as strong as Omega Metroids, despite what Jurassic Park CCCLXXXVIII will tell you.
- Upsilon Metroids are a writhing mass of tentacles that will kill anything they catch.
- Phi Metroids rely on their brute strength to crush their opponents.
- Chi Metroids are the fastest land predators on SR388.  They are also rather lazy and spend most of the day sleeping.
- Psi Metroids are hyper-intelligent and tap into the planetary Aeion energy to use abilities such as Phase Drift.

Metroid belongs to Nintendo.
